During the holidays, most are in the spirit of giving, and GlobeDrop is striving to do just that.

GlobeDrop is a non-profit organization that allows travelers to contribute to social welfare establishments and NGOs around the world while traveling. GlobeDrop is a free web and mobile application that can easily connect travelers to verified social organizations.

Their motto, “Travel Meaningfully”, concisely describes what the organization is about. GlobeDrop promotes responsible traveling by locally buying in-kind donations to help the community livelihood.

Using the GlobeDrop application can also create social awareness through immersion when travelers buy goods to be turned to in-kind donations in their chosen local market communities.

The idea of GlobeDrop was formalized based on the facts and figures from World Tourism Organization:

  • In 2013, the tourism industry surpassed 1 billion International travelers.
  • Also, the total export earnings generated by international tourism in 2013 reached 1.4 trillion US Dollar.

Since debuting in June 2014, GlobeDrop has been joined by several non-profits, charity institutions, and social organizations.

As GlobeDrop expands, they envision opening up more ways for GlobeDroppers to help and for social organizations to receive aid. In line with long term goals, assistance will not only be limited to in-kind donations, but to other types of support such as crowd funding, sponsorship programs, sustainable support and many more.

They also want to sustain the cycle of giving social meaning to billions of travelers who want to use the GlobeDrop application not only as a means to travel in an off the beaten path, the discovery of new cultures through local immersion and to validate the increasing interest from travelers.

The GlobeDrop Difference

GlobeDrop is a product of experiences from our Founder, Baptise Leroux and Communications Manager, Alix De La Porte. Both of them are avid travelers and have volunteered in many parts of the world.

Baptiste has lived abroad and was basically inspired to create GlobeDrop because of his experience in an orphanage in Jamaica. Alix has traveled a lot since birth, had worked in associations in France, and volunteered in an orphanage in India for three months. She also has her own association, scholarship sponsorship program for girls in the ‘Untouchables’ caste system, the lowest social rank in India.

Through their combined insight, GlobeDrop was created to address all the positive interest for all and easily link both travelers and charity organizations.
