Hotels.com has launched a brilliant marketing campaign emphasizing the easiness and now-urgency of having mobile capabilities available to consumers.
JT Holmes, a stuntman and sports enthusiast, went skydiving in Lake Tahoe, and booked a hotel room via his cellphone while falling through the air. He lands at the hotel to learn that his reservation was made successfully.

This creative idea, though an obviously exaggerated example, expresses the need for hotels to have mobile-friendly options available for the ever-expanding mobile-savvy audience, along with the need to have it be simple and efficient.
As a hotel, having an easy way for travelers to be able to book a room for your hotel, easily, spontaneously, while on-the-go, makes the booking process less stressful and also gives the hotel an opportunity to draw in new business. The fact that a skydiver can book the room in the short amount of time he drifts through the sky emphasizes the easiness of the booking process through this portal.
Hotels.com has over 150,000 hotels and also incorporates a GPS functionality allowing users to find the most up-to-date hotel specials based on where they are specifically located at the point of search.
Which vacation will you be booking during your next skydiving adventure? 😉
Talk about multi-tasking! I’m just glad the skydiver didn’t drop his cell phone—or forget to open his chute—while booking his room. 😉
Clever. I suppose this illustrates how quick and easy it is with your iPhone, though I won’t be distracting myself when freefalling by attempting to do the same.
And Mitch — I wondered the same thing about dropping the phone, but it appears that he has the phone somehow strapped to his left hand. Chasing the phone he dropped might be the NEXT video.
Awesomesauce! Good to know =)

How’s that for outrageous marketing…
Haha, yeah, seriously! Definitely warranted a lot of buzz, though!
Now you know you can multi-task the next time you go skydiving 😉
You know, I wonder, if he did drop his phone while falling, if it’d remain even with him (at least prior to opening the parachute)? I imagine it would. That’d be quite a trip!
The real question is — did he checkin on Foursquare from the sky? 😉
That would deserve a special badge!
That was a very cool stunt!
